Jacopo de Benedetti founded the firm under the name “Ufficio Internazionale per Brevetti d’invenzione e Marchi di fabbrica” in Rome in 1882. In 1909 the firm changed its name to SIB Società Italiana Brevetti.
Jacopo’s descendants, Michele, then the current Managing Partner Fabrizio de Benedetti and, more recently, Mara Mondolfo and Jacopo de Benedetti Jr. joined the firm. Today we are a leading European intellectual property firm with offices in Rome, Milan, Florence, Varese and Verona.

Commitment to Improving Intellectual Property Legislation
SIB has a history of commitment to developing and improving intellectual property laws and of active participation in the international intellectual property community.

For over 30 years, our partners have advised the bodies at national and European level and taken part in government committees in charge of drafting legislation or negotiating multinational treaties.

SIB’s current Managing Partner Fabrizio de Benedetti has taken part in government bodies in charge of revision of Italian intellectual property law and preparation of the Intellectual Property Code in force since March 2005, and was a member of the Italian committees in charge of the application of major international intellectual property treaties (Madrid Protocol and TRIPS Agreement).

Partners and associates are active, often holding key responsibilities or even presidency, in major Italian, European and international intellectual property organizations.
