New gTLD application system to reopen on 22 May
DOMAIN NAMES
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced this week that one month after the opening of the new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) application procedure (see relevant news item) the number of successful registrants in the online new gTLD Application System has reached 100. Each successful registrant can apply for up to 50 new generic Top-Level Domains
The procedure, which aims to increase the number available generic domain name extensions, will close on 12 April 2012, the deadline for filing of applications.
The list of registrants and gTLDs applied for will only be published after the application period closes; until then, ICANN will not comment publicly about any specific application or who has submitted applications.
