On 16 July 2010 Fabrizio de Benedetti, General Manager of SIB Società Italiana Brevetti, will speak at a seminar on “Biotech patents: the rights of the researcher and of the research organisation” organised by the University of Rome La Sapienza in co-operation with the National Center for Biological Resources (Centro Nazionale per le Risorse Biologiche). The seminar will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The seminar will look into plans for changes concerning Italian intellectual property laws, focusing on how university research and patents could be affected. Topics will include the proposed changes to art. 65 of the Italian Industrial Property Code that would transfer back to universities and public research centres the right to patent inventions developed by researchers, as well as the proposed introduction directly into the Code of the provisions enacting Directive 98/44 on the legal protection of biotechnological inventions.
