Our expert on intellectual property in food and wine products Paolo Veronesi<\/a>\u00a0 is to speak at the international seminar on \u201cIP Law Tools for Protecting Food Products – Looking for the Perfect Pairing: Wine as a Case Study\u201d taking place on 27-28 May 2022 in Verona.<\/p>\n

The event is organised by the International Association of Lawyers<\/a> (UIA) in cooperation with the University of Verona<\/a> as well as with the Italian Food Law Association<\/a> (AIDA), the International Wine Law Association<\/a> (AIDV) and the Union of Wine and Vine Jurists<\/a> (UGIVI).\"indicazioni<\/p>\n

Intellectual property rights such as plant variety rights, patents, utility models, trade secrets, geographical indications, denominations of origin, trademarks and domain names can play a vital role in the agri-food business, from the early steps of growing, breeding and manufacturing to the final ones of labelling, marketing and branding the finished products.<\/p>\n

The seminar will focus on the protection of intellectual property rights in particular in the world of wine, with legal experts, academics and practitioners sharing their experiences and first-hand knowledge of leading cases concerning this sector, but relevant also to many other food products.<\/p>\n

Paolo Veronesi, who is both an attorney-at-law and a European trademark attorney with a solid experience in the protection of intellectual property in food and wine products, will speak on 28 May 2022 at 9 am about the Prosecco-Prosek dispute. The name \u201cProsecco\u201d designates a well-known Italian white wine, and is registered as a Protected Denomination of Origin under EU law. The Italian government, along with a number of Italian institutions and associations of Prosecco wine producers, have filed oppositions against an application recently filed by the producers of a Croatian wine to register the name \u201cProsek\u201das a Traditional Term under EU law.<\/p>\n
