The concept of relationship between EU and Italy.\" width=\"328\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sib.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Fotolia-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sib.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Fotolia.jpg 490w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 328px) 100vw, 328px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The European Commission announced yesterday that it has accepted Italy\u2019s request to join the group of European Union member states taking part in the enhanced cooperation for the creation of a unitary patent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Italy is the 26th European Union member state to join the group. Spain and Croatia are two European Union member states that are still outside the unitary patent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The European Commission\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/europa.eu\/rapid\/press-release_MEX-15-5748_en.htm?locale=en\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a> announcing Italy\u2019s inclusion among unitary patent states also refers to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/documents-publications\/agreements-conventions\/agreement\/?aid=2013001\" target=\"_blank\">ratification situation<\/a> of the Unified Patent Court Agreement (UPCA).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The release ends with a call \u201con all remaining participating Member States to ratify the UPCA as soon as possible so that the Unitary Patent package comes into force by the end of 2016.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The unitary patent can come into force if the UPCA is ratified by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, as well by any other 10 UPCA signatory countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So far, neither Germany nor the United Kingdom have ratified the UPCA.
