{"id":5478,"date":"2017-11-15T10:49:16","date_gmt":"2017-11-15T10:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sib.it\/?p=5478"},"modified":"2017-12-19T16:48:46","modified_gmt":"2017-12-19T16:48:46","slug":"costo-del-brevetto-europeo-proposte-riduzioni-partire-dal-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sib.it\/en\/flash-news\/epo-president-proposes-fee-reductions-for-european-patent-system-users\/","title":{"rendered":"EPO President proposes fee reductions for European patent users"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>EPO\u2019s President Benoit Battistelli has tabled proposals to cut several fees related to the European Patent application procedure: if approved, they could save users almost 50 mln euros in 2018 alone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A series of \u201cground-breaking proposals\u201d to <strong>lower the cost of European patents<\/strong> were announced by the President of the European Patent Office Benoit Battistelli in a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.epo.org\/patents\/reducing-epos-fees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a> at the end of October.<img class=\"alignright wp-image-5477\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sib.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Europe.jpg\" alt=\"costo brevetto europeo\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sib.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Europe.jpg 425w, https:\/\/www.sib.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Europe-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If the proposals were adopted, the <strong>good news for European patent users<\/strong> would be first of all that the inflation-based biennial fee adjustment for 2018-2020 would not be applied.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, both the search fee and the examination fee charged by the EPO for PCT applications would be cut by 100 euros.<\/p>\n<p>European examination fees for files already examined by the EPO in PCT proceedings would be discounted by 75% (up from the current 50% discount). For applicants using the EPO as an International Search Authority for search and examination and entering the European phase, the new proposal would cut costs by 14%.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the EPO would reduce by around 7% the fees paid by eight states (e.g. France and Italy) for the search reports with written opinion issued for national patent applications.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Battistelli estimates that all <strong>the above measures combined would save EPO users almost 50 million<\/strong> <strong>euros<\/strong> in 2018 alone, although it is not clear which categories of users would benefit the most from the supposed savings.<\/p>\n<p>Will the proposals become final?
