Unified Patent Court takes step forward with Austria’s completion of PPA approval

On 2 December 2021 Austria completed its approval of the Protocol on Provisional Application (PPA) of the Unified Patent Court Agreement with a favourable vote by the second chamber of the Austrian Parliament.tribunale unificato brevetti Germania

This is an important step towards kick-off for the Unified Patent Court, since it brings to 13 the number of states that are able to ratify the PPA: the minimum number required for the Unified Patent Court to begin its preparatory phase.

It is to be noted however that no agreement has yet been reached on the crucial issue of which state should become permanent host of the Central division of the Unified Patent Court originally assigned to London.
